Pathways to Sustainable Communities

Pathways to Sustainable Communities

Pathways to Sustainable Communities is a new project that springs from Sustainable San Mateo County’s 20 years of data reporting and takes the next step to identify actions that propel sustainable practices. Our analysis will trace the gains and loses over time, identify successful strategies towards community resilience, guide decision makers toward effective solutions, and set a foundation for SSMC’s advocacy platform.

Our research will explore six overarching topics and the interrelations between systems:

  • Climate Disruption & Adaptation
  • Resource & Habitat Conservation
  • Community Health & Wellness
  • Education & Workforce Development
  • Efficient Transportation
  • Jobs/Housing Balance

Inspired by stories of how people instigated movement toward sustainable living, our work will be shared in several formats:

  • Reports Presented in Print and Online
  • Toolkit to Replicate the Analysis
  • Conference
  • 20 Year Timelines
  • Data-driven Graphics
  • Digital Media

We thank our early program sponsors who help us navigate this path:
Patagonia, Facebook, Provident Credit Union, Guittard Chocolate, Seaport Industrial Association, SamTrans, Cargill, and many SSMC members
