Sustainable San Mateo County is a community-based organization. It relies primarily on the support of volunteers who contribute hundreds of hours to conceive, plan, and execute programs. Operating funds come from individuals, businesses, government agencies, and foundations.More than 60 volunteers currently support active SSMC projects that directly reach an annual audience of more than 10,000 San Mateo County and Bay Area residents. SSMC achieves many of its goals indirectly, by educating community leaders, who in turn, lead change within their own spheres of influence.SSMC is governed and led by a board of directors. The staff consists of an Executive Administrator, an Outreach Coordinator, and an Indicators Program Coordinator.
