Under a new program, property owners will be able to buy environmentally friendly appliances and upgrades with no upfront cost and pay back the loan on their property taxes.
The San Mateo City Council made the deal possible this week by voting to join the CaliforniaFirst program, a new initiative by a group called the California Statewide Communities Development Authority. The authority will issue bonds for property owners to install energy- and water-efficiency improvements such as solar panels and low-flow toilets.
